A Dead Star

Written at age fifteen

A star—what is it?
A shining stone?
Some twinkling diamonds?
Or something else.

A star is a picture
Of life and living,
Of hope and wishes,
Of faith and believing.

Then what is a dead star?
A vague picture?
In my mind, in your mind,
It shines but has no life.

It twinkles devoid of hope,
It lives like a lifeless stone.
It mirrors the truth
Of our lives today—.

They run, they live,
They struggle, they die.
No end, no beginning,
No emotion, no feeling.

Just a race of the blind,
Without a deadline.
Stop—stop and think,
Take a step back and feel.

The importance of living,
The power of hope,
The magic of faith.
And then will come.

Some life,
Some true shine,
Some true twinkle
In the dead star
Engraved in your heart.
